Employee Spotlight: Cory Timmerman

Posted on: October 11, 2021

Classic Carriers employee Cory Timmerman was recently honored by Darke County Economic Development as one of its Top 20 Under 20 winners.

The 20 Under 20 Awards originated as a way to recognize students, educators and businesses who are powering the development of the next generation of workers in our region. Award nominees need to be “under the age of 20, a resident of Darke, Mercer or Auglaize counties (Ohio), and enrolled in high school, post-secondary education or adult education related to their career.” They should also be part of a work-based learning program, whether that be an apprenticeship, internship, co-op program or other collaboration between a business and educational institution.

Cory, a senior at Versailles High School, began working at Classic in August of 2020. He’s spent over 1,400 hours with us now as a jack-of-all-trades. He assists us in servicing trucks, changing brakes and tires, servicing all wheel components and general shop maintenance.

“Cory has been a real asset to the Classic Carriers shop,” Wes Subler, Shop Manager at Classic, says. “Cory is on time for work, stays on task, wants to learn, shows initiative, excellent work ethic and is overall an ideal employee. Cory is approachable, willing to jump in to help with any task asked of him and works well with the staff at Classic Carriers.”

Cory’s plans after graduation are to attend the University of Northwestern College in Lima, Ohio, where he will major in diesel mechanics. He intends to return to Classic Carriers after graduation.

Classic Carriers connected with Cory through the Versailles Agriculture Education Capstone Program, which gives Versailles High School juniors and seniors enrolled in agriculture education the opportunity to experience real-world employment experiences and opportunities.

The program enrolled 53 students this year. As part of their program, students must keep daily records of the hours they worked, the pay they earned, and the skills they used or learned on the job.

We’re pleased that Cory chose to join our team at Classic Carriers – and we hope to see him again after he graduates!
